The Prizes
Grand Prize: $10,000* cash

The Challenge
The challenge is to develop a prototype application in .NET, using a SQL database. Entries must be WinForm applications written in C# or VB.NET, and must use a SQL Server backend. It is anticipated that this challenge would take a talented individual 50 to 100 hours to complete.
Third-party controls are allowed, but must cost under $1,000 total. Third-party controls totaling over $1,000 require approval from us before use (e-mail us at codefor10@hcss.com and explain your decision in using these controls). HCSS will not reimburse any costs associated with the use of third-party controls.

Contest Rules
Eligibility
To participate, you must reside in the U.S. and be eligible to work in the U.S. HCSS will not sponsor winners for H1B visas.
You must sign up by 7/20/09 11:59 PM CST, and submit your entry by 7/26/09 11:59 PM CST by uploading it to this Web site (or delivering it in person to the HCSS office during normal business hours). You may be involved with only one entry, submit only one entry, and participate in only one team. Entries in violation of Contest Rules will be disqualified. Void where prohibited.
General Terms
All entries become the property of HCSS. You grant HCSS the right to produce, sell, and use the technology (software, code, design, concepts, etc.) associated with your entry. If you choose to reuse all or parts of the code, you agree to hold HCSS harmless and indemnify HCSS for any liabilities associated with the reuse. You verify that your entry contains original work of your own or that of your team. You shall indemnify and hold HCSS harmless of any claims that may result from your participation and entry in this contest.
HCSS is not responsible for late, lost, misdirected, or corrupt entries, or entries that fail to reach us due to technical issues or any reason. HCSS will not reimburse any costs associated with your entry, including the use of third-party software. HCSS reserves the right to change Contest Rules at any time without notice.
Team Work
You may participate in only one team. If you work in a team, only one team member needs to register for the contest. A single prize is awarded per winning entry, regardless of the number of team members involved.
Winnings
Winners are responsible for all taxes. Winners who choose to interview with HCSS are responsible for their own travel expenses. HCSS will provide a meal allowance and a one-night stay at a local hotel per winner or team (limit of three interviews per team), if desired.
HCSS reserves the right to use and publicize the names and likeness of all winners, and share a description of their work. Winners will be required to verify their identify and/or entry.
Odds of winning depend on the number of qualified entries.
Judging
Entries will be judged by HCSS on the following:

1. Performance on a multi-user network with 20 concurrent users (70%)

2. Ease of use (10%)

3. Minimum of keystrokes and mouse clicks (10%)

4. Elegance of code (10%)
Judging will be done on executables until the potential top five entries are selected. At that time, the five entries will be re-compiled and re-tested from source code and any third-party software used.
Notification
Winners will be announced on 8/14/09 at www.codefor10.com. Winners will also receive notifications in e-mail and/or postal mail, and have 14 days from written notification to claim the prize. Unclaimed prizes will not be awarded.
